Basset Community Development Trust is set up with the aim of taking public amenities into public ownership so as to safeguard and enhance their long term future. It was set up in 2006 and focuses on the North Kerrier area.
Its first project, the conversion of the ruined old St Day Parish Church into an open- air performance area has been sadly unsuccessful.
A further project will look to protect a public open green space in the Fairfields area of Redruth.
Director and Adminstrator Ian Thompson says ‘The support from actnow reach has been invaluable to us as it has enabled us to set up a new interactive website for the Development Trust
The Basset Community Development Trust is operating solely to further the interests of the public so it is vital that all our work is totally in the public domain and easy for people to access.
The website will allow us to keep everyone abreast of what we are doing and very importantly, it will also provide a mechanism whereby the public can contact us and let us know about amenities that they would like to be considered for intervention by the trust.
The website will enable us to have a direct link with the community that we serve and we hope it will inspire a significant amount of comment and feedback.’
In addition, the Development Trust uses the Internet extensively to communicate with other similar organisations elsewhere in the UK.
Ian says ‘We are now a member of the Development Trusts Association and it is very useful to be able to share information and best practice with others in the field through website research and email contact.
The Internet and the new website are allowing us to have the kind of direct contact with the public and our peers that would simply not otherwise have been possible. It opens all kinds of new opportunities for us and broadens our horizons’
